Generative AI
Generative AI is a class of artificial intelligence systems that produces new content—such as text, images, audio, video, code, or structured data—by learning patterns from training data and responding to prompts or other inputs. Its outputs can be useful and convincing while still being inaccurate, fabricated, biased, insecure, or inappropriate for the intended context.
Generative AI includes large language models and other systems designed to create or transform content. It differs from agentic AI: a generative system may produce an answer without planning or taking actions across a workflow, while an agentic system can use generative models as part of a broader sequence of goal-directed activity.
Foreign ministries can use generative AI for drafting, translation, summarization, research support, knowledge retrieval, and internal productivity. The same technology lowers the cost of producing synthetic media, impersonation, and large volumes of persuasive content. Institutional use therefore requires data rules, verification, task boundaries, human responsibility, security review, and clarity about when generated material can enter official processes.
Generative AI appears in chat assistants, writing and translation tools, document analysis, image and video generation, coding support, meeting summaries, knowledge interfaces, synthetic voice, content personalization, and systems embedded in common productivity platforms and public-facing services.
