Investigative Diplomacy
A recently proposed approach to diplomatic practice that combines systematic investigation, multi-source verification, digital methods and strategic analysis. It is not yet an established official diplomatic doctrine.
The term is presented in an announced Georgetown University in Qatar book discussion scheduled for 18 October 2026; as of 15 October that event has not taken place.
It offers a useful lens on evidence provenance, lawful fact-finding and accountable decisions, but must not be conflated with intelligence operations or compulsory investigations.
