Consulate
A consulate is an official post through which a state performs consular functions in another country, often outside the capital. It commonly assists citizens, processes visas or travel documents, supports emergency response, facilitates legitimate economic and cultural connections, and performs other functions permitted by international law and the receiving state.
Consulates are part of a state's overseas network but are not identical to embassies. An embassy is normally the principal diplomatic mission responsible for the overall political relationship, while a consulate is generally more focused on citizens, mobility, documentation, local services, and subnational connections. A consulate may be headed by a consul general, consul, or another authorized consular officer.
For many people, the consulate is the most direct and visible point of contact with their state abroad. Its performance affects public trust, mobility, crisis response, and the protection of citizens. As services move online, consulates must combine accessible digital delivery with identity assurance, data protection, fraud prevention, trusted communication, human support, and continuity when systems or local conditions are disrupted.
Consular work appears in passport and travel-document services, visas, civil-status documentation, emergency assistance, detention and welfare cases, evacuations, death or injury abroad, crisis alerts, support for vulnerable citizens, local business connections, and coordination with embassies, headquarters, and host-country authorities.

An embassy is the principal diplomatic mission through which one state represents itself in another state, usually from the host country's capital and under the leadership of an ambassador. The word is also commonly used for the mission's premises, although the diplomatic mission is the institution and team, not only the building.

A diplomatic mission is the official representation through which a state conducts diplomatic relations with another state or participates in an international organization. Depending on its mandate, it may take the form of an embassy, high commission, permanent mission, delegation, or another recognized diplomatic representation.
