Arria-formula Meeting
An Arria-formula meeting is an informal gathering organized by one or more UN Security Council members to hear views and exchange information outside the Council’s formal meeting formats.
These gatherings do not constitute formal Security Council meetings. Their participation, public visibility and format may vary.
The format can bring perspectives into the Council’s discussions without implying a formal Council position or decision.
A Council member convenes an Arria-formula meeting with relevant experts or affected groups to explore an emerging security issue.
Do not conflate informal Arria meeting with a formal UN Security Council session.
